Child Complained Of Poison Oak But It turned out Stevens Johnson Syndrome
His eyes were bloodshot red and his lips were beginning to crack and peel.
It is every mother’s worst nightmare when her child gets ill. But it is even worse when there is nothing you can do about it. Mandy Suzanne Smith picked up her son Zachary from school because he had poison oak on his foot and itchy eyes. The rash had spread to his entire body the next day, and he had a fever.
According to The No Chill reports, doctors initially suspected viral infection, but the medications he was given didn’t work, and his symptoms worsened.
His eyes were bloodshot red, and his lips were cracking and peeling. Zachary was diagnosed with SJS by the doctors (Stevens-Johnson syndrome). It literally burns you from the inside. He had been taking lamotrigine (Lamictal) to treat migraines.
Stevens-Johnson Syndrome was diagnosed in him. It became worse until 90% of the child’s skin was affected and it spread to his lungs. As his skin blistered, he screamed in agony.
They flew him to a burn unit, where he was placed in a coma. Doctors removed his skin and wrapped him from head to toe so that it could start growing again. Nobody knew if he’d make it.
But Zachary did, and apart from his hair needing to grow again, he looks like new. No one knows what side effects will occur down the line. Zachary told his parents that he was never actually asleep while in his coma and that a strong angel named Samson held him in his arms.
He also said he saw his “mawmaw patsy” who had passed. Zachary said he scratched his back as he lay in her lap. This seems to be a miracle from god. His parents are just thankful he seems better and healthier now. What a nightmare that was.
